Chapter Five

Dawn

When Rocky said he’d get me flowers, I figured he was only making empty promises in the heat of the moment.

He wasn’t.

It’s been a week of sleeping with my neighbor, for lack of a better term, and every morning, I wake up to a fresh bunch of roses next to me. There is no confusing the warm feeling that tugs at my heart for anything but love. It’s insane for me to even imagine myself falling in love with someone I know so little about, but Rocky makes it hard for me not to love him.

We’ve only known each other for a short while, but I’ve quickly realized that this man is not the jerk I first took him for. He has his moments where he tests my patience and pushes me to the edge, but after spending so much time around him, it’s hard to imagine a life without him, and that terrifies the hell out of me.

I crave him with such a strong hunger, it’s unlike anything I have ever felt before. From his warm masculine scent and touch to his deep voice . . . everything this man does is enough to have my sex pulsing with heat and my heart clenching with need.

I can’t bring myself to imagine a morning where I don’t wake up to a room smelling like a field of roses or a night where I don’t lie wrapped in the safety of those tree trunks he has for arms. I can’t entertain the thought that there might come a time when I won’t grip those thick muscles as he makes love to me on every surface of his unit.

“Shit,” I whisper, running my hands over my sleepy eyes and pushing back the unbidden thoughts. I have no idea what we’re doing or why I’ve let myself fall so deeply in love with him so fast, but I can’t help myself.

Even now, with my brain still foggy from sleep, he’s the first thing I think of. He’s the only thing on my mind as I freshen up before going to seek him out. I take a short detour into the kitchen to grab a coffee, my heart fluttering in my chest when I find a pot ready.

“You’re up early today,” Rocky calls out when I join him on the balcony where he’s working out, something I’ve learned he does every morning. I take a sip of my coffee as I run my eyes over his gray sweats and up his glistening muscles and marvel at how perfect every inch of him is.

“I have an early class that I don’t want to be late for,” I say, ogling the man over the rim of my cup.

“Of course, I’ll get ready in a few minutes and can drop you off—”

“No,” I say, shaking my head. “You don’t have to do that, because then you’ll have to drive back here when I could just take the bus.”

He breathes out a sigh. “Dawn . . .”

I
